BIRTHPLACE OF SCOTLAND TOUR
Tour Highlights: Kilmartin Glen...ancient kingdom of Dalriada...Dunadd Fort...Kilmartin House Museum and Cafe...stone circles, tombs, burial chambers and cairns.
This is the tour for budding archaeologists and anyone interested in the origins of the Scottish nation. It’s an hour’s drive down the coast to Kilmartin Glen, where the ancient Kingdom of Dalriada was centred. This kingdom covered Northern Ireland and the Argyll coast and, from it, modern Scotland emerged. Feel the ethereal presence of the earliest Scottish kings at the eerie Dunadd Fort and visit the Dalriada excavations exhibition in the Kilmartin House Museum - it has a super coffee shop too!
Within six miles of Kilmartin Church there are at least 600 archaeological sites, with more being discovered each year. We'll take you to the medieval tombstones in the churchyard and Neolithic rock carvings in the hills. Explore some of the stone circles and cairn tombs, and more. It's a fascinating day out - come join us.
